‘The Saga of Olav Sleggja’ in colour
For a limited time, you can buy the entire 156-page viking graphic novel ‘The Saga of Olav Sleggja’ by Øystein Runde and coloured by Anakata’s Seth Piper for a very reasonable $5. There is a free sample here and the payment page is here; you will be contacted shortly afterward by email with a download link.
Although not published by Anakata Comics, Seth Piper has contributed with colouring the entire work and this is the first time a colour version is available in any format. It is also the first time the work is available in English.
Slaggja (‘Sledgehammer’) was well received when first released in 2009, and was nominated both for the Sproing prize and the Norwegian Department of Culture’s comic prize. The print version is still available from Samlaget in Nynorsk (New Norwegian). Their summary of the story translated roughly as follows: ‘We meet Olav Sleggja, who is in debt to king Olav Tryggvason. He will carry out a final mission before he can be free: to kill the brother of the King. The Saga of Olav Sleggja captures the tone of the sagas in comic form with added black humour’.
*UPDATE- as of January 2012 this download is no longer available*

The Spark
Arriving soon from our printers in the U.S. is a new title, ‘The Spark’ by Seth Piper and Alexander Svanberg. This story grew out of an animated music video from a few years back for the Norwegian band Jim Protector and features a tragic, alienated robot figure. A Norwegian language version, ‘Gnisten’ has been produced simultaneously.
Available in a larger-than-average size of 8″ x 10.5″ from our webshop or by email. 22 colour pages.

Coming soon- Wakan Unwanted issues 4 & 5: ‘Through This Lens’
We are well underway with the next two issues of Wakan Unwanted! ’Through This Lens’ will be a two-part story revealing a lot more of Clarius’ past and contains plenty of the Western/steampunk action which is the trademark of the series. Once again written by Lars S. Nygård and drawn by Seth Piper, issues 4 and 5 will be along in early summer 2011 with a special extended double cover, the first half of which we can reveal below:

New webcomic: “Before the Laughter Dies”
The Anakata crew is growing. One of our latest additions is the fantastic artist Séber Lászlo, who I’m currently working with on the upcoming “Ontonauts” series. But here, for your reading pleasure, is our first collaboration, with web production by Aksel.
Originally, the story was our entry to Outland’s comics contest (which we didn’t win). We came up with the idea over a couple of beers, and a week later the whole thing was done. It’s an equally quick read, and – we hope – an entertaining one.

Coming soon- Wakan Unwanted issue 3: ‘His Master’s Voice’
The next issue of our alternate-reality Western comic, Wakan Unwanted, is nearing completion. ‘His Master’s Voice’ is the exciting, mysterious and explosive continuation of Clarius’ story as he digs deeper into the dark heart of Pistonville town- both literally and metaphorically.
We are very happy to be able to offer our loyal readers a brief preview of some of the pages from this issue and we hope to have it on sale in the not-too-distant future.

Comic Jams OCX2010
Even though there has been quite a while since OCX2010, we have not forgotten about all the great contributions that were submitted to our stand. Finally – they are all uploaded to the comic jam section. If you missed this event at OCX you have a whole new opportunity at Raptus Comics festival from september 10th to the 12th. You may also buy our comics there, or just chat with one of the cheerful chaps of anakata comics.
Enjoy!

Wakan rejected again
Right, we resubmitted Wakan Unwanted #0, 1 and 2 to Apple, this time with two pages of background on the Wakan universe and an outline of the story. No luck. #1 has been rejected again, and we fear #0 and #2 will suffer the same fate.
The next step will be to rewrite some dialogue and resubmit again. At least then we will know if it is the language they are rejecting, or if they have a more fundamental problem with the story.
As Apple hasn’t provided any more info on this, we will get in touch with other relevant actors for their take on the book. So far, no one else has mistaken the intent of Wakan Unwanted.
And – just for the record – the book’s intent is strongly anti-racist, in line with the convictions that Seth and I have always held.
Norwegian writer Eirik Newth has been covering the AppStore a while. You can read about his take on Apple’s rejection of Wakan Unwanted on his blog.
More news to follow.
